A central question in plant regeneration biology concerns the primary driving forces invoking the acquisition of somatic embryogenesis.Recently,theroleofmicronutrientboron(B)intheinitiationandperpetuationofembryogenesishasdrawn considerableattentionwithinthescienti?ccommunity.Thisinterestmaybedueinparttothebewilderingobservationthatthe system-wideinductionofembryogenicpotentialsigni?cantlyvariedinresponsetoaminimaltooptimalsupplyofB(minimal≤ 0.1mM,optimal=0.1mM).Atthecellularlevel,certainchannelproteinsandcellwall-relatedproteinsimportantfortheinduction ofembryogenesishavebeenshowntobetranscriptionallyupregulatedinresponsetominimalBsupplysuggestingthevitalroleof Bintheinductionofembryogenesis.Atthemolecularlevel,minimaltonoBsupplyincreasedtheendogenouslevelofauxin,which subsequentlyin?uencedtheauxin-induciblesomaticembryogenesisreceptorkinases,suggestingtheroleofBintheinduction ofembryogenesis.Also,minimalBconcentrationmay“turnon”othergeneticand/orcellulartransfactorsreportedearlierto beessentialforcell-restructuringandinductionofembryogenesis.Inthispaper,boththedirectandindirectrolesofBinthe inductionofsomaticembryogenesisarehighlightedandsuggestedforfuturevalidation. 1.Introduction embryosisthecontinuousgrowthresultingfromtheabsence of developmental arrest [4].
