Aim.Toevaluatecapsuleendoscopyintermsofincompleteexaminationsandcapsuleretentionsandto?ndriskfactorsforthese events.MaterialandMethods.Thisretrospectiveandconsecutivestudyincludesdatafrom2300capsuleenteroscopyexaminations, performedatfourdi?erenthospitalsinStockholm,Swedenfrom2003to2009.Results.Thefrequencyofincompleteexaminations was20%.Olderage,malegender,suspected,andknownCrohn’sdiseasewereriskfactorsforanincompleteexamination.The PillCamcapsulehadthehighestrateofcompletedexaminations.Capsuleretentionoccurredin1.3%(n =31).Riskfactorsfor capsuleretentionwereknownCrohn’sdiseaseandsuspectedtumor.Complicationsofcapsuleretentionwereacuteobstructive symptoms in six patients and one death related to complications after acute surgical capsule retrieval. Conclusion : Capsule endoscopyisconsideredasafeprocedure,althoughobstructivesymptomsandseriouscomplicationsduetocapsuleretention canbefoundinalargeseriesofpatients. 1.Introduction as well as purgatives, have be
