Despite a lack of understanding in relationtothemaintenanceofthedenguevirus innatureduring interepidemic periods,theverticaltransmission ofthe denguevirusinpopulationsofA.aegyptiandA.albopictusappearstobeofsignificanceinrelationtotheurbanscenarioof Fortaleza. Methods:FromMarch2007toJuly2009collectionsoflarvaeandpupaeofAedessppwerecarriedoutin40neighborhoods ofFortaleza.Thecollectionsyielded3,417(91%)A.aegyptimosquitoesand336(9%)A.albopictusmosquitoes.Onlypools containingfemales,randomlychosen,weresubmittedtothefollowingtestsindirectimmunofluorescence(virusisolation), RT-PCR/nested-PCRandnucleotidesequencingattheC-prMjunctionofthedenguevirusgenome. Results: The tests on pool 34 (35 A. albopictus mosquitoes) revealed with presence of DENV-3, pool 35 (50 A. aegypti mosquitoes)wasfoundtobeinfectedwithDENV-2,whilepool49(41A.albopictusmosquitoes)revealedthesimultaneous presenceofDENV-2andDENV-3.Basedontheresultsobtained,therewasami
