Methods:Datawereobtainedfromtwopractice-basedmulticentreprospectiveoutcomestudies,oneDanishand oneSwedish,involvingsubjectsbeingtreatedbychiropractorsfornon-specificLBP.Over18weeks,subjects answeredaweeklyautomatedtextmessagequestiononthenumberofdaysinthepastweekthattheyhad experiencedbothersomeLBP,i.e.anumberbetween0and7.ThenumberofweeksinarowwithoutanyLBPat all(zeroweeks”)aswellasthemaximumnumberofzeroweeksinarowwasdeterminedforeachindividual. Comparisonsweremadebetweenthetwostudysamples.Estimatesarepresentedaspercentageswith95% confidenceintervals. Results:IntheDanishandtheSwedishpopulationsrespectively,93/110(85%)and233/262(89%)ofthesubjects wereeligibleforanalysis.Inbothgroups,zeroweekswereratherrareandweremostcommonly(in40%ofthe zeroweeks)reportedasasingleisolatedweek.Theprevalenceofpainfreeperiods,i.e.reportingamaximumof0, 1or2,or3-6zeroweeksinarow,weresimilarinthetwopopulations(20-31%).Smallerpercentageswere reportedfor≥7zeroweeksinarow.Therewerenosignificantdifferencesbetweenthetwostudygroups. Conclusion:Itwasuncommonthatchiropracticsubjectstreatedfornon-specificLBPexperiencedanentireweek withoutanyLBPatallover18weeks.Whenthisoccurred,itwasmostcommonlyreportedforbriefperiodsonly.
