Methods:Inthepresentstudy,weinvestigatediffrequentpour-onapplicationsofpyrethroidswouldreducetick infestionrateandseroprevalenceofA.phagocytophiluminfectioninsheep.Fortylambs,onemonthold,ofthe NorwegianWhiteSheepbreedwereused.ThelambsbelongedtotheexperimentalsheepflockattheDepartment ofProductionAnimalClinicalSciences.NoneofthelambshadbeenonI.ricinusinfestedpasturebeforeturnout (day0).Alllambsweretwinsandtwentylambsweretreatedwithapour-onpyrethroid(BayticolW,BayerA/S, DK-2300)withadoseof5mlondays0,14,28,42,56,70,84,98,112and128.Twentylambswereuntreated controls.Thelambswerecollectedeveryfourteendaysonpasturefortreatment.Inaddition,thelambswere examinedforticks,bloodsampled,weighed,andrectaltemperaturewasrecorded. Resultsandconclusion:Asignificantreductionintickinfestionratewasdetectedontreatedlambs.However,the presentresultsindicatethatfrequentacaricidetreatmentdoesnotreducetheseroprevalencetoA. phagocytophilumontick-infestedpasture.
