QualityofLifeofMedicalStudentsinChina:AStudy UsingtheWHOQOL-BREF YangZhang1,BoQu1*,ShisiLun1,DongboWang1,YingGuo2,JieLiu3 1Research Centre for Medical Education, China Medical University, Shenyang, China, 2Fourth Affiliated Hospital, China Medical University, Shenyang, China, 3DepartmentofHealthStatistics,SchoolofPublicHealth,ChinaMedicalUniversity,Shenyang,China Abstract Objective:Theaimofthisstudywastoassessthequalityoflife(QOL)ofmedicalstudentsduringtheirmedicaleducation andexploretheinfluencingfactorsoftheQOLofstudents. Methods: A cross-sectional study was conducted in June 2011. The study population was composed of 1686 medical studentsinyears1to5atChinaMedicalUniversity.TheChineseversionofWHOQOL-BREFinstrumentwasusedtoassess theQOLofmedicalstudents.ThereliabilityandvalidityofthequestionnairewereassessedbyCronbach’sacoefficientand factor analysis respectively. The relationships between QOL and the factors including gender, academic year level, and specialty were examined using t-test or one-way ANOVA followed by Student-Newman–Keuls test. Statistic analysis was performedbySPSS13.0. Results: The overall Cronbach’s a coefficient of the WHOQOL-BREF questionnaire was 0.731. The confirmatory factor analysisprovidedanacceptablefittoafour-factormodelinthemedicalstudentsample.Thescoresofdifferentacademic yearsweresignificantlydifferentinthepsychologicalhealthandsocialrelationsdomains(p,0.05).Thirdyearstudentshad thelowest scoresin psychological healthand social relations domains. The scoresof different specialties had significant differencesinpsychologicalhealthandsocialrelationsdomains(p,0.05).Studentsfromclinicalmedicinehadthehighest scores.Gender,interestintheareaofstudy,confidenceincareerdevelopment,hometownlocation,andphysicalexercise weresignificantlyassociatedwiththequalityoflifeofstudentsinsomedomains(p,0.05). Conclusions:TheWHOQOL-BREFwasreliableandvalidintheassessmentoftheQOLofChinesemedicalstudents.Inorder to cope with the influencing factors of the QOL, m
