ThispaperdescribestheRandomizedTrialofAchievingHealthyLifestylesinPsychiatricRehabilitation(ACHIEVE). Thegoalofthestudyistodeterminetheeffectivenessofabehavioralweightlossinterventionamongpersons withseriousmentalillnessthatattendpsychiatricrehabilitationprograms.Participantsrandomizedtothe interventionarmofthestudyarehypothesizedtohavegreaterweightlossthanthecontrolgroup. Methods/Design:Atargeted320menandwomenwithseriousmentalillnessandoverweightorobesity(body massindex≥25.0kg/m2)willberecruitedfrom10psychiatricrehabilitationprogramsacrossMaryland.Thecore designisarandomized,two-arm,parallel,multi-siteclinicaltrialtocomparetheeffectivenessofan18-month behavioralweightlossinterventiontousualcare.Activeinterventionparticipantsreceiveweightmanagement sessionsandphysicalactivityclasseson-siteledbystudyinterventionists.Theinterventionincorporatescognitive adaptationsforpersonswithseriousmentalillnessattendingpsychiatricrehabilitationprograms.Theinitial intensiveinterven
