Selectionwas?rstperformedfortengenerationsin aclosedline,comparedtoacontrollinederivedfromthesamefounderpopulation. Selection wascarriedonwithinsirefamilyonthetotalnumberofpigletsborninthe?rsttwolittersof thedam(TB1+TB2). Aftertengenerations, theselectioncriterionbecamedamTB1only. Thecontrollinewasthendiscontinuedandapaneloffrozensemenfromthe11thgeneration boars was created for later comparisons. The selected line was opened to giltdaughters of hyperproli?cboarsandsows,atarateof1/8pergeneration,andthesameselectionprocedure wasappliedirrespectiveoftheoriginofthegilt. Duringthewholeexperiment, thenumber of ova shed (OS) and the number of live embryos (LE) at 30 days in the 3rd pregnancy wererecorded. ThesetwopartsoftheexperimentwereanalysedusingREMLestimationof geneticparametersandaBLUP-AnimalModelinordertoestimatetheresponsestoselection. Signi?cantheritabilitiesforTB1,TB2,OSandLEwereobtained,i.e.0.10,0.05,0.43and0.19, respectively. Signi?cantcommonenvironmentvariancesandcovarianceswereestimatedfor nearlyalltraits.Signi?cantlypositiveBLUPresponsespergenerationwereobservedfromG0to G17forTB1(+0.086),TB2(+0.078),OS(+0.197)andLE(+0.157).However,theresponses were3-to4-foldhigherintheG12–G17intervalcomparedtoG0–G11,andtheywerealsoin fairagreementwithpreviousestimatesbasedonstandard
