In this study, we aimed to determine the expression of this transcriptional factor in colorectal tumours. Using a Snail1 well- characterizedmonoclonalantibodydevelopedinourlaboratorieswehaveanalyzedbyimmunohistochemistryacohortof 162humancolorectaltumours.Ninetytumours(56%)showednuclearexpressioninthetumoraltissueandtheadjacent stroma;in34(21%),Snail1wasdetectedjustinthestroma,whereasinonly4theexpressionofSnail1wasdetectedinthe tumoraltissueandthestromawasnegative.NocorrelationwasfoundbetweenthepresenceofSnail1inthetumourand tumourstage;however,atrend(p=0.054)wasdetectedwhentheexpressionofthisfactorinthestromawasconsidered. Snail1 immunoreactivity in this compartment was associated with presence of distant metastasis (p=0.006). Moreover, expressionofSnail1inthetumorstromacorrelatedwithlowerspecificsurvivalofcancerpatients(p=0.011).Interestingly, thiscorrelationwasalsodetectedinstageIandIItumors.Therefore,ourresultsindicatethatthepresenceofnuclearSnail1 immunoreactivecellsinthestromamaybeaninformativeindicato
