Department of Industrial Engineer­ ing and Logistics Management， Shanghai Jiao Tong University， Shanghai 200240 ，China) Abstract :A maintenance replacement scheduling model was proposed on the basis of equipment service age with the aim of minimizing the total maintenance-related cost for a multi-unit series production system with immediate buffers. Shutdown loss caused by breakdown ，maintenance ， or machine starvation was analyzed. Based on the Monte-Carlo simulation method，the genetic algorithm was applied for optimization of the solution. The comprehen­ sive cost increases with increase in productivity demand，output per unit time，and minor repair time.
