Lets look at the results of a survey of authors – asked How did they choose which journal to send a paper to? How many of these questions did they think about? First – a Survey by INASP, of authors in Developed Countries (the UK?) Quality and speed Top items were Turnaround time (Refereeing speed) Quality (Refereeing standard) Journal reputation Editor/board, physical quality and publication services Top reason – Quality/Prestige – Sometimes reflected in IF – Not always Second – very specialized journals read by particular group the author wants to reach Third – “We send all our papers to Journal XXXXXXX Finally – want their article published quickly * Lets talk about these first very well known journals first, so we can forget about them. Usually, a waste of time!
