Dream in Dong Culture From the 6th to the 9th century,nowaday’s Dong settlement ethnic states was called Dong or Dongxi.Gradually,an increasing number of people are used to calling them “Dong”.After the foundation of the People’s Republic of China, they are named “Dong” minority officially.Dong people are distributed in Guizhou, Hunan and Guangxi provinces’ border region. The Dong people are famed for their native-bred Kam Sweet Rice, carpentry skills, and unique architecture, in a particular form of covered bridge known as the wind and rain bridge. Wind and Rain Bridge has a wooden structure combining with corridors, pavilions, pagoda?and attic structures. The most amazing thing of the bridge is that not a single nail was used in the whole bridge. The most outstanding covered bridge is the Chengyang Wind and Rain?covered bridge?which is protected as a valued cultural relic of? Dong people. The bridge was added to the?UNESCO?World Heritage?Tentative List on February 12, 1996, in the Cultural category. Chengyang Wind and Rain Bridge is about 77 meters long, 19 meters high and 4 meters wide. The bridge has brought Dong people a lot of?convenience. It connects villages that are divided by rivers and offers shelter from wind and rain. It sculptures all kinds of flowers and birds on the eaves angles. It has many mascots on the bridge ridge. “It’s truly a great gift by our forefathers.” Dong people said. The Drum-Tower is a representative construction of Dong`s architectural culture, a treasure of national culture. It is said that the Drum-Tower has been built since the ancient times, which looks like cedars. At that time, Dong people were used to sitting down and chatting whit each other under the great cedars at nights. When they went farming, hanged their farm implements and raincoats on the cedars.
