They lost their mother when they were quite young. Being the elder sister Charlotte had to look after her young sisters and brother. They received education in a charity school where the conditions were very bad. They were all lovers of literature, and often write poems and stories together. Charlotte Bronte exposed the evil conditions of that school in her masterpiece Jane Eyre. Charlotte and Emily went to Brussels to work as governess for some years . Poor health compelled them to return home .Later they devoted themselves to writing. Misfortunes came to the three sisters one after another. Emily and Anne died of the same illness. Their brother also died of the illness . Later her fathers curate Nicholls courted her and she got married to him in 1854, but less than a year later, she died.
