This review shows how Mark Twain can be exemplified as such a case, in view of his involement in American humor of his day and the art of his “black” humor as social critique in the postmodern age. It also explores the extent to which depth of analysis is achieved through juxtaposing different works of humor in European and American literature by using the perspectives and methods provided in Su’s book.
