Compet ition and coexistence patterns of these species in the ecotone w ere analyzed using the follow ing mea sures: frequency distribution, spatial pattern, and pattern intensity. Patterns of A . chinense and its main compan ion species w ere diverse.Aggregation was the tactics for A . chinense to defend the foreign species! invading or disperse itself.T here existed competition and coexistence betw een A . chinense and its main companion species. A . chinense and Phragmite com munis competed and coexisted through suppression. A . chinense and K alimeris interif olia coexisted t hrough competition. H ierochloe glabra and Puccinellia tenuif lora competed w ith A . chi nense through clonal grow th. Calamagros tis ep igeios was suppressed by A . chinense.
