The present paper concerns itself with influences of translator ‟s subjectivity upon translated text based on the discussion of four major factors of translator ‟s subjectivity: cultural awareness, translation skopos, views on poetry translation and personal temperament. A deductive method is designed to verify that translator ‟s subjectivity does exert some influences on translation. What the author of this thesis wants to emphasize in her study is that translator ‟s subjectivity does provide a new perspective to study different versions of the same source text and the influence of factors of translator ‟s subjectivity upon translator ‟s choices. The author of this thesis tries to verify that the four subjective factors do influence translator ‟s choices in the process of translating based on a comparative study of the three versions of The Book of Songs. There are six parts in this paper. The thesis starts with a brief introduction to the current state of translator ‟s subjectivity study and some basic information about The Book of Songs. Then it comes to a literature review to look back to previous studies of The Book of Songs in the West and in China. The theoretical basis aims to see traditional status of translator and current study about translator ‟s subjectivity at home and abroad. Later on four major factors of translator ‟s subjectivity are proposed to see how they exert influence upon translation on the basis of analyses of examples from The Book of Songs translated respectively by James Legge, Arthur Waley and Xu Yuanchong.
