To tell you the truth, its probably the closest Ive ever gotten to a college graduation. Today, I want to tell you three stories about my life. Its not a big story. Its just three little stories. Life is full of karma I dropped out of Reed college after 6 months, but then stayed around as a drop in for another 18 months before I finally quit. The story begins before I was born. My biological mother was a young, unwed mother, who was still a graduate student when I was born, so she decided to adopt me for someone else. She insisted that I should be adopted by a couple who had been to college, so when I was born, she was ready for me to be adopted by a lawyer and his wife. But at the last minute, the couple changed the idea of adopting a boy. At this time, another couple on the list, my adoptive parents, decided to adopt me. But later, my mother found that mother had never graduated from college, and father had never graduated from high school. She refused to sign the final adoption papers. A few months later when my parents promised that I would go to college, her attitude began to change. At the age of 17, I foolishly chose a school that was almost as expensive as Stanford University. My parents were in blue collar jobs and they spent almost all of their savings on my tuition. 6 months later, I realized I had no idea what it was that was going on, so I decided to quit school. I was really scared when I made that decision. Now, looking back, it was one of the best decisions I ever made. From the moment I dropped out, I didnt have to take the required classes that didnt interest me anymore, and started dropping in on the ones that looked interesting. But its not that romantic. I didnt have a dorm room, so I slept on the floor in friends room
