Abstract In recent years the rise of complexity science leads to the transformation in scientific concept and review s of the
ideas and methodologies of the ancient oriental scientific concepts T he prog ress of complexity science pronounces the
annihilation for modern medicine to reach a holistic synthesis on the basis of reductionreconstruction Follow ing the
train of thought of complexity science modern medicine finds its w ay tow ards holistic synthesis and w e are astonished to
discover that this is footprint of T raditional Chinese M edicine T CM for the past thousands of years It implies that
under the auspices of the new complexity science the holistic synthesis of modern medicine and the modernization of T CM
are diff erent routes w ith the same destination In the coming several decades under the auspices of complexity science it
w ill evolve a holistic medical sy stem integ rating the organic w holeness of T CM and the know ledge and ex perience of
reductionism of the modern medicine T herefore a brand new holistic medicine that comprises today s reduction
construction medical science w ill be the mainstream of medicine in the st century
