The project reported here was undertaken to find out whether an international consensus could be reached on what constitutes the minimum desirable information for self-treatment. The attempt was made for six medicines in common use in many countries; aspirin, paracetamol, aluminium hydroxide, ferrous sulphate, senna and a multivitamin preparation. ;Methods and Results A. H. sent an outline plan for the project to 30 clinical pharmacologists, physicians interested in drug therapy, and pharmacists in 20 countries.
