AbstractWiththerapiddevelopmentofInternetandcommunicationtechnologies,the DNS(DomainNameSystem),asacoreinfrastructureoftheInternet,isbecoming moreandmoreimportant.Throughauthorizationandconfiguration,DNSis becomingatypicaldistributeddatabaseusedbythewholeworld.Itsavailability directlyaffectsthequalityofservicefortheentire Internet.Soit’sparticularly importanttoevaluatethequalityoftheDNSservice.Theestablishedquality evaluationmodelofDNSservicecanprovideusersthefigurestochoose the domainnameserverwithbestperformance.ThispaperfirstintroducestheworkingmechanismoftheDNSstructureand DNSmessageparsing.AndthenitanalysestheimpactfactoroftheDNSservice performanceandsummarizesthecurrentresearchmethodstoimproveDNSservice performance.Afteranalyzingthefactorsaffectingserviceperformanceand summarizingthemethods improvingserviceperformance,this paperproposes a servicequalityevaluationmodelbasedonnetworkperformance.TheevaluationmodelinthispaperusesthefactorsimpactingDNSnetwork performanceascriteria,including:thebottlenecklinkbandwidthfromclienttothe domainnameserver,thepathlengthofdatapacketfromtheclienttothedomain nameserver,transmissiondelayofdatapacketsinthenetwork,packetlossrate causedbylinkorroutinginstability,thedelayjittercausedbythenetworkqueuing delayofdatapacketandtheaccuracyofresponsepacketgivenbythedomainname servertorespondthenameresolverequest.Basedontheaboveperformance indicatorsimpactingservicequality,thispaperdesignsandimplementsamethodto detectnetworkperformance.Byapplyingnetworkactivemeasurementtechniques andexisting networkprotocols,ICMPpacketsandUDPtransportprotocol, and DNSpacketsagreementasatheoreticalguidance,thispaperdetectsallproposed performanceindicators.Characteristicsofnetworkequipmentelementsimpactsthe end-to-end networkperformance,whichwilleventuallybeexpressedastheservicequalityin usersperception,probe-baseddataand calculationofDNS servicequality benchmarks.ThispaperproposestheDNSservicequalityevaluationmethodbased onnetworkperformance,networkperform
