ABSTRACTObjective To evaluate the clinical effectiveness of Traditional Chinese medicine in the treatment of periodontitis, which will provide a scientific basis for the advantages of traditional Chinese medicine in the treatment of periodontitis, looking for the best solution in the clinical treatment of periodontitis.Method Searching literatures what were published from January 1979 to February 2014,and the electric-databases including:①China National Knowledge Internet (CNKI) ②PubMed③Chinese Selected Doctoral Dissertations and Master’s Theses Full- Text Databases(CDMD)④Wanfang database⑤The Chinese biomedical literature database (CBM)⑥Cochrane Library. Chinese toperiodontitisorperiodontal disease as keywords for the first time to retrieval andTraditional Chinese medicineor combined traditional and western medicine as keyword forthe secondary to retrieval;English toperiodontal diseasesorperiodontitisas keywords for the first time to retrieval andTraditional Chinese medicineorcombined traditional and Western medicineas keywords for the second time to retrieval.Screening to retrieve the documents, will be included in the standard document according to the Jadad scale for qua lity evaluation and data extraction.Finally, the Meta-analysis during nearly 30 years materials about treating periodontitis by traditional Chinese medicine or combined traditional and Western medicine methods be completed through the evidence-based medicine method.Results 1.Documents overview The nine Chinese documents involving 644 patients were selected in this paper, including 346 patients in traditional Chinese medicine group and 298 in Western medicine group.
