Describing the oracle synonyms comprehensively helps us further understand the evolution and the developing rules of ancient Chinese vocabulary. It also has a significant value to study on the history of Chinese vocabulary comprehensively. In this thesis, I have summarized the oracle synonyms and discussed some controversial issues according to Oracle Dictionary wrote by Xu Zhongshu, Concise Dictionary of Oracle---with Categories of Inscriptions wrote by Zhao Cheng, Concise Dictionary of Oracle wrote by Cui Hengsheng. And, I have obtained some characteristics of oracle synonyms though the means of comparing it with later synonyms.The thesis includes the following contents:Introduction: Introduction of the current research on oracle synonyms.Chapter One: Overview of oracle synonyms. The criterion of oracle synonyms is carried out by discussing the definition of synonyms and the reasons for the formation of oracle synonyms.Chapter Two: Summary of the monosyllabic oracle synonyms.Chapter Three: Summary of the complex-syllabic oracle synonyms and synonymous words.Chapter Four: Comparison of the oracle synonyms and synonyms of the bronze vessel inscriptions in the Shang Dynasty and the Zhou Dynasty and synonyms in the literature materials of the periods before the Qin Dynasty.
