AbstractLow-pressure die casting (LPDC) is a kind of competitive casting method in which the molten metal is fed into the die or mold from crucible positioned in the bottom of die or mold, and then solidified under a positive pressure. This conventional method suffers from drawbacks such as low productivity, inability to produce continually, unstable metal liquid quality and the high fluctuation of gas pressure. So a new kind of continual low-pressure die casting technology was developed to make the best of this process.The holding furnace used in the traditional low pressure die casting was transformed into three independent furnaces which are connected by two tunnels in the novel technology. The electro-pneumatic proportional valve was adopted to control the air pressure, and before each casting, the liquid level was kept at the same height to ensure a good reproducibility. This continual low-pressure die casting technology is able to refill from the other ladles, pour quantitatively and pressurize constantly. It is characterized by the ability to perform continual production without interrupting the pouring and the other operational steps for refilling. These enable a stable and consistent manufacturing process.The work principle and work process of this novel technology were described in the paper. And the liquid level control principle was analyzed too. The mechanical structure of this continual low-pressure die casting machine was designed according to the practical situation, including the holding furnace, the pressurizing furnace, the rising furnace, heating system etc.The hardware system of the continual low-pressure die casting control technology was researched to conduct the action of the machine. According to the pressuring principle, the pneumatic system was developed to fulfill the task of pouring metal.
