AbstractWiththearrivaloftheserviceeconomy,thetraditionalmanufacturingindustryhasexperiencedahugeimpact.Continuouslycompressedproductmargins,morediversifiedcustomerneedsandmorebrutalcompetitionallforcemanufacturerstoseeknewprofitgrowthpointandsourceofcompetitiveadvantage.Serviceisthebestchoice.SomeinternationalmanufacturinggiantssuchasIBM,RRandGEhavesuccessfullyconductedservitizationreformswhichenhancethelevelofbusinessperformanceandcompetitiveness.Chinesemanufacturers,suchasShaanguGroup,alsosuccessfullyconductedaservitizationtransformationwithagreatenhancementofprofitability.However,intheprocessofmanufacturingservitization,manyfirmshavefacedhugechallengesandencounteredtheserviceparadoxorthresholdeffect,evenfailure.Notallmanufacturersarewillingtoformulateordaretoimplementservitizationstrategy.Notallmanufacturingcompaniescanimprovebusinessperformanceandcompetitivenessthroughservitization.Therelationshipbetweenservitizationandbusinessperformancebecomesverycomplexandvague,andthereislittleresearchhasclearlydemonstratedtheprofitabilityofmanufacturingservitization.Althoughservicewillofferstabilerevenuesandhighprofitsintheory,theservitizationmeansinvestmentandtransformation.Testifyingtherelationshipbetweenservitizationandbusinessperformance,andofferingsuggestionsandguidelinesabouttheservitizationtomanufacturingcompaniesareeagerlyrequested.Therefore,thispaperstudiestherelationshipbetweenservitizationandbusinessperformanceaimingtofindanswerstothoseparadoxes.Basedontheempiricalresultsoftheimpactofnationalvariables,thisresearchrevealsthepresentconditionofChina’sservitizationandofferssomeadvicestothegovernmentandmanufacturingcompanies.Basedonliteraturereviewandtheoreticalanalysis,thefitconcerptwasintroducedtotheservitizaitonresearch,andformedanewresearchparadigm.Thetheoreticalmodelwasformulatedtoinvestigatetherelationshipbetweenservitizationandbusinessperformanceandthemoderatingeffectofnationalvariables.ThedataiscollectedthroughtheInternationalManufacturingStrategy(IMSS-V)2008an
