AbstractPovertyisaglobalproblemwhichimpedesthedevelopmentofallcountries.In21stcentury,theworldeconomichasdevelopedrapidly,butpovertyisalsothemostseriouschallengetotheworld.Nomatterinthehighlydevelopedcountries,orinthedevelopingcountries,thereexistpovertyindifferentlevels.Povertylimitsthedevelopmentofhumansociety.Indiaisoneofthecountrieswhichhavethemostpovertypopulationintheworld.ToeliminatepovertyisnotonlybenefitfortherapidgrowthoftheIndiaeconomy,butalsohasgreatsignificancetothepovertyreductionintheworld.Sincethe1990s,India’sserviceindustrymadethegreatcontributionstoeconomicdevelopment.Atthesametime,India’spovertyratefellrapidly.Servicehasbecomethemaindriverofitseconomicdevelopment.ThedevelopmentmodelofIndiaisdifferentfromothercountriesofworld.Itdevelopedfromaagriculturalcountryacrossthestageofindustrialization,directlyintotheeraofserviceeconomy.Now,ithasbecomeoneoftheworld’sleadingservicecenter.TheexperienceofIndianindicatestheworld:Industrializationisnottheonlywaytodevelopeconomy.Itispossibletopromoteeconomicgrowthandreducepovertyratiothroughthedevelopmentofserviceindustry.Servicecanbecometheimpetusofpovertyreduction.Throughoutthecurrentacademicresearchachievements,thereislittleliteraturesresearchtherelationshipofIndiaserviceandpovertyreduction.Therefore,thisarticleattemptstoresearchhowservicereducepovertyinIndia.Firstly,thepapersummarizedtheliteratureswhichabouttherelationshipbetweenserviceandpovertyreduction.Servicemainlythroughthreewaystoreducepoverty:increaserevenue;createjobs;provideessentialservices.Thesecondpartexplainstherelevanttheoriesaboutserviceandpoverty.Thesetheoriesaremainlyaboutserviceandeconomicdevelopment,serviceandemploymentandanti-poverty.Thethirdpartdescribesthesemechanismsindetails.Inforthpart,theauthorestablishedaneconometricmodeltoanalysistheroleofdifferentindustriesonpovertyreduction.AnalysisresultshowsthatonlythedevelopmentofserviceindustryplaysanactiveroleinpovertyreductioninthreeindustriesinIndia.Last,theauthorputforwardsomesuggestionsa
