Furthermore, the FTIR spectra of the alcohol extracts of three medicinal plants mentioned and another related plant S. aizoon L. from the same genus were also obtained. The results showed that the general peak shapes, numbers, positions, intensity and ratios of each other could be employed to distinguish the drugs of these related species. Hence, the utilization of IR spectrum from sample powder or alcohol extraction in drug authentication and quality evaluation deserved to be emphasized. Through the HPLC analysis, it was found that the three drugs all contained flavonoid glycosides, and their hydrolyzates all included quercetin. The content determination informed us that a certain relationship existed between the quercetin content and the collected seasons. Besides, genetic diversity analysis on the medicinal plants of Genus Sedum manifested that RAPD was an effective method to detect genetic variation of the chosen species, which is closely related to the morphological properties. All the studies mentioned above demonstrated that the relationships of the plant drugs from Genus Sedum can be judged to a certain degree through the anatomical, IR spectrum, HPLC and RAPD methods. Various researches came to an conclusion that S. sarmentosum Bunge. and S. lineare Thunb. possessed a closer relationship compared with S. erythrostictum Migo., which provided botanical systematic evidences to utilize and develop the 3 medicinal plants. These research results of this issue offered systematic techniques and relevant experimental evidences to drug identification, quality analysis and reasonable exploitation of S. sarmentosum Bunge.,S. lineare Thunb. and S. erythrost
