This is the first period of this unit .It is concerned with teaching students about what makes a great person. By learning warming up and pre-reading it is hoped that the students will be able to see the differences between a famous person and a great one and think of the qualities that are needed to make a great person. The reading passage titled Elias’ Story is to introduce Nelson Mandela a modern hero. Nelson Mandela was chosen as the example of a modern great man because of his fight for fairness in South Africa and his far- sighted and generous ideas to those white people who were against him. After learning this passage, students are expected to learn from Nelson Mandela and develop their moral qualities.学习者特征分析The students are in the first term of high school, their vocabulary is limited, and sometimes they can’t express their own opinions properly. In this period, I will get the students to talk about the fine quality of great people to improve their speaking ability. What’s more, the students’ reading ability is weak, and there are too many new words in the reading passage. Moreover, there are many attributive clauses in this passage, too. So, first I will get the students to skim for topic sentences of each paragraph, and then scan for further understanding .Besides, in order not to let students feel much difficult, I will deal with any language problems while they are reading.单元教学目标分析1.
