Unit 3 Tomorrow’s world

Thoughts on the design:
This unit explores the theme of the future and tomorrow’s world. It provides a chance for students to gain a better understanding of the future and to imagine what they think will happen in the future with the rapid development of science and technology.
Teaching aims:
Knowledge objective
To introduce them to things that may appear in the future like RealCine and time machine.
To enlarge students’ vocabulary of eight planets in solar system.
Ability objective
To develop students’ speaking and reading capabilities
Emotional objective
To help students realize that the things we can only imagine today could be realized in the future.
Important points and difficult points:
To practice students’ ability of speaking by discussing what else a robot can do and what questions they want to ask the future ‘them’.
To practice the non-attributive clause by using it to answer questions.
Teaching procedures:
Step 1 Lead-in
Ask students whether they remember one topic in the last book.
[Back to the past]
Show some pictures of movies and TV plays about going to the past and going to the future.
Step 2 Imagination
Ask students what our life will be like in 3000.
A display of five pictures about different aspects.
Clothes will automatically (自动地) change themselves.
Your backpack will carry you.
You will fly with magic shoes or hats.
Punish those who don’t obey the traffic rules.
People will live much longer because of genetic research. (基因研究)
Step 3 Four aspects of development
Whom to play with?
Ask students whom they often play with nowadays and whom they may play with in the future.
Show some pictures about what robots can do.
[play chess, play violin, play football, do housework, be your teacher, be your friends…]
Group discussion: What else can a robot do?
Things we should pay attention to when we get along with robots:
Don’t rely too much on them.
Don’t be a slave to them.
