AbstractAfter reform and openning up, the condition of classes in China has changed a lot. The white collar worker got a lot of attention. Since the early 90’s in last century, the fashion magazines, which is specially published for the white collar worker, had have become very popular. People think they are spokesmen, how they represent the living condition of the white collar worker? And how are the white collar workes like in these magazines? Have they changed? If so, why did they change?Use the conception:Mirror’s image from Lacan, I see the main content of ELLE as the mirror’s image which we can see through the magazine. This image is constructed by two main parts: the report of the white collar figures and the representation of the white collar worker’s living style. Use the measure of quantitative analysis and qualitative analysis to study on 30 copies of ELLE , we found that the mirror’s image has a very strong character of consumerism. And also, it sends the encourging and entertainment message to the readers. After comparative analysis, we found that during the 15years the mirror’s image on the magazine has changed in this way: the character of consumerism in it has become more and more obvious. Firstly, the amount of the consumed figures became more the the production ones; secondly, the most up-to-date fashions have become more and more important for the white collar workers of the magazine. The transformation of the mirror’s image of the white collar worker in the magazine has a strong connection with the transformation of China society and economy.The whole paper has four parts, the introduction shows the purpose of the study , the related research results and the research methods. The rest of the paper discussed about the mirror’s image of the white collar and the transformation of it.Key words: ELLE;the fashion magazine; the white collar worker; mirror’s image;consumerism.目录第 1 章绪论.............................................................
