ABSTRACTThetechnologyandelectrochemicalbehaviorsofultrasonic-pulseelectrodepositingCr/SiCcompositecoatingsfromtrivalentchromiumbathcontainingofcompoundcarboxylate-ureawereinvestigatedaccordingtotheSiCandchromiumcontentandthethicknessofthecompositecoatings.TheeffectsofthebathandtheoperatingconditionsontheSiCcontent,thickness,surfaceappearancehavebeendiscussed,Theoptimumbathandoperatingconditionswereobtained:CrCl3·6H2O0.65mol·L-1,Na3C6H5O70.4mol·L-1,Na2C2O40.32mol·L-1,CO(NH2)22.05mol·L-1,CH3COONa0.35mol·L-1,H3BO30.72mol·L-1,NaCl2.0mol·L-1,SiCl.3mol·L-1,CTAB0.013mol·L-1,currentdensity5.4A·dm-2,pH2.1,temperature36℃,electrodepositingtimes65min,workratio0.35,switchingtimes4ms,pulsefrequency22Hz,ultrasonicfrequency40kHz,ultrasonicpower85W.Undertheoptimumconditions,theCr/SiCcompositecoatingwiththickness13.83μm,SiCcontent7.2%andhardness1352.3Hvcanbeobtained.Thesurfacemorphology,microstructureandcompositionofCr/SiCcompositecoatingswerestudiedwiththehelpofmodernanalyticalinstrument,suchasscanelectronmicroscope(SEM),X-raydiffraction(XRD)andphotoelectronspectroscopy(EDS).Theresultsshowthatthecrystalgrainswithaball-likecrystalstructurewereobtained,thesurfacemorphologywassmooth,microcracksandpinholescouldnotbeobserved.SiCphasewerefoundinCr/SiCcompositecoatings,andthebasicmetalswereCrwithcrystalstructure.TheresultsofcorrosionandwearperformancetestingsindicatedthatthecorrosionandwearresistanceincreasedwithincreasingtheSiCcontentintheCr/SiCcompositecoatings.TheeffectofultrasonicandcomplexontheelectrochemicalbehaviorsofCr/SiCcompositecoatingselectrodepositionwereinverstigatedbythemodernelectrochemicalmethods.Theresultsshowthatsinglecomplexingagentandcompoundcarboxylate-ureasystemcouldnotonlyleadtothetwostepsofCr3+ionsreductionpotentialsshiftnegativelybutasloincreasethehydrogenevolutionpotential,andanobvioussynergisticeffectwaspossiblyproducedbetweencompoundcarboxylate-ureasystem.Meanwhile,duetotheultrasonicfieldpresentinginelectrodepositionprocess,thetwostepsofofCr3+reductionpotential
