ABSTRACTThepopularityofhigh-resolutionindustrialcamerasprovidesaseverechallengetothetransmissionandstorageofphotogrammetricimages,becausethesephotogrammetricimagescontainahugemassofdata.Thereforce,ithasagreatapplicationvaluetodesignacompressionschemethatissutitableforphotogrammetricimages.Inotherwords,itisnecessarytoencodethephotogrammetricimagestosavethestoragespace.Accordingtothecharacteristicsofphotogrammetricimagesandthecorrelativetheoryofimagecompression,thecompressiontechnologyofhigh-resolutionphotogrammetricimageisresearchedindetail.Ingeneral,themajorcontentsandinnovationsachievedinthispaperareshownasfollowing:Theimagecompressionmethodsusedinthecommonvisionmeasurementsystemsarediscussed.Accordingtothecalculationmethodsofvisionmeasurementtechnology,thecompressionrequirementandtheencodingimplementschemeofphotogrammetricimagesareproposedbycombiningtheapplicationfeaturesofphotogrammetricimagewiththeimageencodingtechnology.AftersummarizingtheresearchstatusofROIencodingtheory,thetechnicaldetailsandtheevaluatingindicatorsoftheencodingscheme,usedforencodingthephotogrammetricimages,aredescribedindetail.Theextractionmethodsoffeatureregionsinphotogrammetricimagesareresearchedindetail.Afteranalyzingtheextractionmethodsoffeatureregionsinlaserfaculaimages,ellipticaltargetimagesandstructuredlightstrrpeimages,thegeneralextractionmethodoffeatureregionsinphotogrammetricimagesisproposedusingimagebinarizationandtheimagedilationalgorithm.Inordertoreducetherepeatedcalculationsexistingintheimagedilation,amodifiedimagedilationmethodbasedontheFreemanchaincodeisprovided.Andthegeneralextractionmethodoffeatureregionsinphotogrammetricimagesisverifiedbytheexperiment.Theencodingschemeofphotogrammetricimagesbasedonbitplaneliftingisstudied.Inthisscheme,theencodingofarbitraryresolutionphotogrammetricimageisachievedbycombiningtheregionscodingandmodifiedSPIHTcoder.InthemodifiedSPIHTcoder,theencodingefficiencyofphotogrammetricimagesisimprovedbythesperateencodingbetweenthesignbitplaneandthemagnit
