II II Abstract Critical reports are news reports about the problems, shortcomings or errors existing in reality, commonly known as the PiPingGao. Developing critical reports is a major way for the news media to perform the function of supervision of public opinions couple with an important embodiment of militancy of the news career in China. Recently, some Chinese news media boldly report some events in a critical way that the minority people in the government departments, the judicial departments or the economic departments make use of their authority to seek embezzlement, bribery, breach of duty and even do every evil or commit all sorts of corruption. Moreover, these news media also reveal the great loss to the nation and people which all sorts of corruption brings, as well as the various bad behaviours which a few outlaws act to endanger peoples lives and property and social order. They are making efforts to promote the anti-corruption work effectively ,promote social climate change and social development and progress. The southern weekend is one of the most famous of the media, and sets a good example is for its supervision of public opinion, supporting this claim is publication of a large amount of influential critical reports. This article uses all the critical reports in the southern weekend from March 6, 2008, to March 6, 2011, as sample. We carry on the quantitative and qualitative research to explore critical reports features in the southern weekend during the three years. In this article, we can find the southern weekend takes critical reports very seriously, a large number of critical reports with a high frequency has become an important part of the daily report in the southern weekend .But generally speaking, the critical reports in the southern weekend is going down.
