It has derived several sub-fields in macro, micro, and applied levels, for example, contrastive pragmatics, text linguistics, cultural linguistics, cognitive linguistics, formal linguistics, etc. These sub-fields make our understanding on language more colorful and clearer from different angles. Literary Pragmatics (LP), one of the numerous sub-fields deriving from interdisciplinary research, is a relatively new subject. It is a new paradigm on linguistic and literature research, considers literature discourse as communicative language (Barnet, Berman and Burto, 1960). The aim is to bringing about the cooperation between linguistic research and literature research. Literary pragmatics contains numerous theories, methods and research projects (Bressler, 2007). It not only cares about the election of literary style, but also gives consideration to the relationship between literary language and language environment, and the interactiveness of literary discourse. It involves a series of problem on literary language, literary theories, literary criticism and the whole literature and linguistic subjects. Therefore, LP which has a great development potentiality has received more and more attention from the linguists and literati. As a pervasive and important linguistic phenomenon, irony plays a decisive role in literature. It has resourceful meaning and micro aims, formidable and interesting characteristics in descriptive events, displaying speakers’ affectional attitude. Successful irony can give expression to the authors’ rhetorical purposes (Worcester, 1960).
