For the down-regulation short protocol, there were no statistical differences in the level of luteinizing hormone on hCG administration day, the rate of good-quality embryos and the number of embryo transferred. The rate of mature oocytes was lower in group 3 than in group 1 and 2, this difference was significant(P ＜ 0.05). The rate of implantation and clinical pregnancy in group 4 was the lowest, these differences were significant (P＜0.01). Conclusions: The serum progesterone level on hCG administration day has effect on the in-vitro fertilization outcome. Measuring the level of serum progesterone on hCG administration day is necessary. For the down-regulation long protocol, a high level of serum progesterone on hCG administration day may influence the quality of oocytes adversly, but the level of serum progesterone on hCG administration day has no significant effect on the outcome of in-vitro fertilization. For the down-regulation short protocol, if the level of serum progesterone on hCG administration day was more than 1.8ng/ml, the rate of clinical pregnancy decrease because of the possible adverse effect on the receptive ability of endometrium. We suggest canceling the fresh cycle when the level of serum progesterone on hCG administration day is more than 1.8ng/ml and delaying ET by cryopreserving embryos.
