Abstract As film’s nature, record has always been studied no matter in narrative movies or documentary films. This paper pulls Michelangelo Antonioni’s Documentary film Michelangelo Antonionis China for research object, on base of analyzing this film’s creation backgrounds, photography contents, lens languages and other aspects, to read Antonioni’s realistic style as while as to explain why this film had been so criticized by Chinese Government when it was released in 1970s, and at last give this film a fair appraisal through comparing the ideology and film aesthetics between China and Western countries. For reaching its goal, three methods are being used in this paper, they are the Literature research methods, Content analysis and Comparison analysis. It starts with summarize Michelangelo Antonioni’s film realistic style and the backgrounds of this documentary. Then deeply analyzes as a world-class director how did Michelangelo Antonioni work with this film when China was in the time of Great Cultural Revolution. And finally compares Michelangelo Antonioni’s unique realistic aesthetics with classic realistic aesthetics in film histories, shows how particular and how well his style was, and then in the field of philosophy finds a reason for the whole style system. In the total study history of Michelangelo Antonioni, there are rare articles specially working on his realistic style of Michelangelo Antonionis China. This paper has a systematic research on Michelangelo Antonioni and Michelangelo Antonionis China, states Antonioni’s director arts in Antonionis China, and tries to explain his special realistic style form a height of esthetics and philosophy. This will be a good example for theory research, and also beneficial for film makers.
