This current research aims to compare reports dispatched by foreign correspondents based in China and reports from Taiwanese local media, in a hope to see how different social and political environments affect their SARS coverage. In contrast to Taiwan’s open and dynamic society, China in a way reflects a closed society without media playing the role to supervise the government and its administration. Therefore, foreign correspondents’ coverage mainly criticize the government, playing the role to supervise the government, and as a window for the international communities to understand China.
