II II Research On Super-High Steel Chimney Structure System ABSTRACT Research on steel chimney structural system is of importance since it could be great potentially applied in the thermal power industry. This paper takes Baosteel chimney and Jinling chimney as representatives of tower chimney and a novel self-standing steel chimney, respectively, and investigates their properties of model dynamic analysis, wind resistance ability and earthquake resistance ability. The structural and economical characteristics of these two chimney style are compared. It is finally analyzed and discussed the optimal shapes of the super-height steel chimney’s plate surface, elevation, and web member. The main contents are as follows: The tower steel chimney and self-standing steel chimney have been analyzed in the aspects of mode dynamic dynamics, wind resistance, and earthquake resistance. With numerical wind tunnel method of Computational Fluid Dynamics (CFD) technology, the shape coefficient of double-tube chimney has been calculated. A conclusion shows that tubes of the tower steel chimney withstand only a little horizontal load, most of which are resisted by the tower, and tube thickness is determined by stress. On the contrary, tubes of new self-standing steel chimney are the main structure to resist a large part of the horizontal load. The tube materials on tower steel chimney are not fully used because the thickness is designed for the anti-corrosion purpose, but the utilization of the ones on the novel self-standing chimney shows higher with larger tube thickness. Conclusions can provide guidance for the designs and analysis of similar projects. Comparisons between high-rise tower and new self-standing chimney with single-tube and double-tube system of the same geometric condition are made in the aspects of economical and structural advantages.
