Without their endless love and encouragement, I would not have completed this thesis. ii ii ABSTRACT Reading fluency is currently receiving an increasing amount of attention in the literature on second language learning. Most previous studies explored the effects of text segmentation, language proficiency or reading ability on reading fluency, whereas little research was conducted on how lexical chunking and L2 learners’ vocabulary size contribute to reading fluency. Thus, this study aims to explore the effects of lexical chunking and vocabulary size on EFL learners’ reading fluency. It addresses the following research questions:
