In order to save and pass on traditional culture and residential buildings, this paper bases on design concept of connection of tradition and future, make a study of vernacular architecture in Yangtze River Delta water local-style dwelling houses to retain the imminent demise of the houses cultural characteristics. Reasonable analyzing and the absorbing of advantaged partial of characteristic and type .This essay explodes on the design methods of residential buildings in the Yangtze River Delta, to find out the residential architecture patters that are appropriate for the contemporary common people with the original characteristics in the Yangtze River Delta. I attempt to explore it from the unity of the traditional building techniques and the modern people lifestyle, and the docking of the traditional construction technology and the modern technology, as well as the fusion of the traditional architectural form and the contemporary aesthetic habits.
