Coring 12.1-* Tripping Industry does not generally use continuous coring operations. We core 60 – 90 foot sections then retrieve the entire assembly. If additional coring is necessary, the assembly is tripped back into the wellbore and coring is continued. Coring 12.1-* Sidewall Cores What are sidewall cores? How is it accomplished? Coring 12.1-* Drilling fluid selection – non damaging We need to know the chemical composition of the formations of interest so that we can design a non-damaging drilling fluid. Since the wells that ODP drill are purely scientific, they core the entire well, and use very innovative coring equipment. * * The advanced piston corer takes core samples in soft formations.
