AbstractIn Abstract In this thesis,cellular automata model is used to study some problems oftraffic flow. Firstly,the practical and academic significance of traffic flow theory,the main objects and the basic methods of traffic flow research are introduced in Chapter 1.Then,in the following chapters,the research work listed below is presented. 1.Considering the velocity effect of a car on the successive carI I propose the concept of “virtual velocity’and“velocity effect model”.Using computer simulations.I present the fundamental diagram which is more consistent to the results measured in real traffic.Especially,the“platoon of vehicle of high velocity’’phenomenon is reproduced by this model. 2.According to the empirical observation of highway traffic,I propose a new cellular automata model with the concepts of‘jammed maximum velocity’’and‘jammed status”to simulate the complex spatio—temporal structure of wide jams.Using computer simulation,I present the space—time plot of the uncompacted jam and the time series of the density in the jams,and the 1-min average data.The results are proved consistent with real traffic. 3.A cellular automata model is presented to simulate an unsignalized T-shaped intersection with two·direction inflow.The concept of“Priority probability’’is proposed to simulate the heterogeneity and inconsistency of traffic flow.The influences of‘‘Priority probability”and“turning rate”on flows of each direction and the capacity of T-shaped intersection are studied respectively.A suggestion about the turning process is proposed on the basis of above results. 4.More complex traffic situation of unsignalized T-shaped intersection witll three·direction inflow is studied.The interactions among every vehicle flow and the effect of vehicle inflow rate on the capacity of the whole intersection are analyzed in detail. Part 1 and part 2 are presented in Chapter 2,in the end of which a conclusion is reached that considering different behaviors under different traffi
