Research on capita l struct ure optimiza tion problem should first focuses on the stud y of factors affect ing capita l struct ure, therefore, it is easier to understa nd the problems of the capita l struct ure , to grasp the essence of the issue, and find a better way to solve the problems. The factors affecting the capita l struct ure ha ve their complexity, so they are dist inguished between different countries even different areas within the same country. The listed companies in nor theast of China, which is as the old ind ust ria l base, ha ve their own cha racte rist ics of factors on capita l struct ure and need to be optimized urgently. So this thesis has made an empirica l resea rch on factors affect ing the cha racter ist ics of capita l struct ure of companies in nor theaster n part of China. First ly, the thesis states the concept of capita l struct ure, pointing out that the stud y is established on the basis of the genera l capita l struct ure. Then, this thesis explores the conclusions and ana lysis of capita l struct ure theor y and the factors whic h affect the struct ure. Second ly, it makes the statist ics ana lysis of the status of the capita l struct ure of listed companies in nor theaster n of China: by the end of 2007, in the nor theaster n region, there are 111 listed companies of which assets and lia bilities rate levels ha ve been significa ntly lower than the nationa l avera ge. With debt struct ure of imbala nce, high propor tion of short-ter m debt, the capita l struct ure of listed companies the nor theast region urgently needs to be optimized.
