Lu Yan. ii ii Abstract It seems far-fetched to blindly apply foreign translation theories to the translation between Chinese and English, as these theories are deducted from translation practices between English and other languages. Though there are quite a few indigenous Chinese translation theories, they fail to draw enough attention due to their weakness in quantitative statement and inclination to vague and abstract qualitative generalization. However, seeing through the mist of complicated and obscure special terms in translation theories, we can find that the Western theorists are not necessarily ahead of our Chinese scholars in developing the most critical concepts in translation
