Guanxian, the famous ancient city, water culture and Taoism culture, has a long history and profound cultural connotation. This thesis has both practical and academic significance, because it presents and analyses the ancient city in various measures and aspects, such as the historical context, city pattern combing, in-depth excavation China city landscape theory, design method and so forth. Since the Wenchuan earthquake, Guanxian city suffered considerable damage of the historic features and city water.. This thesis, utilizes the human settlements theory as a guideline, adopts landscape city of Guanxian city-building idea, and explores the theory and method of city design and development of Bashu area. This paper adopting the methods of historical documents and field research, analyses the characteristics and causes of city development and evolution of the ancient city based on the concept of living environment,. This paper discusses the landscaping ideas and conditions of the internal and external composition, deeply exploring the location, geographic axis and layout, summarizing the city design methodology and the ideas of optimizing living environment of Guanxian. The paper proposes a human-and-natural-environment-oriented urban design methodology applying the traditional urban landscaping layout, emphasizing the significant relations of the ancient city and surrounding landscapes in the perspective of historical, cultural and environmental protection. From this perspective, this paper provides a replanning proposal for the ancient II city and implications for landscaping construction. Key words: Guanxia
