The The Preliminary Study 011 the Red Beds Distribution and Danxia Landform Development Comparation in Guangdong Province Major： Natural Geography Author： Zhicai Wu Supervisor：Prof．Quanzhou Gao；Prof．Hua Peng Abstract Red beds are a non—marine red elastic rock deposition．Red beds are widely distributed at the different geologic period in the world．As a special geomorphologic type in red beds，Danxia landform is initiated，grown up and is accepted and spread widely in the land of China．Danxia landform’s research gain great achievements in the field of theory and practice since the concept‘Danxia landform’named ProfiGuoda Chen in 1939． As the research area of Guangdong province，the paper specially involves the distribution，features，causes of formation of red beds；the distribution，development rules，development comparation of Danxia landform in the Guangdong province．The purposes discuss cadses of formation，development characteristics of Red beds；the rules of distribution．the status of development．the factors of effect and development comparation in Ouangdong province． Guangdong Red beds distribute in altogether 108 Cretaceous—Tertiary red basins， coveting a total area of 28283 km2，account for some 16％of the total land areas of Guangdong province．Red beds in these basins are affected by geologic structure， lithology，climate，time，etc．Danxia laIldfbm is widely distributed in Guangdong． According to the recent results，altogether 64 Danxia landform locations in 21 red basins(according to Huang Jin)are known，covering a total area of 358．9 km‘， account for 1 2．7％of the total red beds areas of Guangdong province．Areas of Danxia landform in the north of Guangdong，north—east of Guangdong，central of Guangdong，west of Guangdong cover differently 822％，10．1％．4．7％，3．0％in the total areas of Guangdong province．The paper draws a conclusion of Danxia landform development rules：geologic time：Cretaceous-Tertiary；lithology：the major of sandy conglomerates，and then sandstones and conglomerates
