A A CI inicaI study of the method of stimuIating bIood ci rcuI atIon to end stasis and di uresi s orl the edema of Iow6r extrem i ty after orthoped i c operat i on Abstract Spec i a I．ty：Orthopedic of TCM Author：]iao Feihu Tutor：Prof．Wan Yuyao． The edema of extremity is the coition symptom after orthopedic operation and is also one of the problems that must be solved．Both traditional Chinese medicine(TCM)and modern medicine have systematic knowledge of it and provide a series of ways to treat it．Based on the points of traditional Chinese medicine(TC吣and modern medicine on the edema of extremity，the thesis discusses and summarizes the research of the two kinds of medicine on etiology and pathogen6sis of the edema of extremity as well as on the treatments．About several thousand years ago，our ancestors came to know that the edema of extremity was caused by blood stasis．As one of the main point of TC瓤formula．prescription of stimulating blood circulation to end stasis was used widely in cl inic，A good many physicians’wi sdom and painstaking effort contributed to its Iong history of forming and developing． The modern study confirms that the drug of stimulating blood circulation to end stasis has the function of promoting blood circulation to relieve stasis，and can lower blood viscosity and red blood cells’aggregation index， raise red blood cells’distortion ability and prolong prothrombin time，so as to improve blood hypercoagulability，and relieve the symptoms of pain and the edema of extremity．According to the theory of TCM，we use the method of of stimulating blood circulation to end stasis and diuresis to treat the ede鼢of extremity after orthopedic operation and observe the effect． Methods：According to different treatment，62 adult patients with the edema of extremity after orthopedic operation in our hospital from Feb．。2006 to March，2007 were divided randomly into two groups．The therapy group has 34 patients(18 men，16 women)and the control group has 28 patients(16 men，1
