The End of Jason and Medea 1. the origin of the Golden Fleece (金羊毛) Athamas (阿塔马斯), brother of Sisyphus and Salmoneus, ruled over Boeotia. At Heras command, he married Nephele and got two sons: Phrixus (佛里克索斯) and Leucon and a daughter Helle (赫勒). But Athamas resented the disdain (鄙视) in which Nephele (涅斐勒) held him and falling in love with Ino (伊诺), daughter of Cadmus, brought her secretly to his palace at the foot of Mount Laphystium, where he begot Learchus and Melicertes on her. Gaining Heras vow, Nephele went to Mount Learchus, where she publicly reported Heras vow and demanded that Athamas should die. But Ino acted quicker, who persuaded the women of Boeotia to parch the seed-corn, so that the harvest would fail. the Golden Fleece The local farmers, frightened of famine, asked a nearby oracle for assistance. Ino bribed the men who sent for the oracle to lie and tell the others that the oracle required the sacrifice of Phrixus. Athamas reluctantly agreed. Before he was killed, though, Phrixus and Helle were rescued by a flying golden ram (公羊) sent by Hera. Helle fell off the ram into the Hellespont (赫勒斯蓬特海峡) (which was named after her) and died, but Phrixus survived all the way to Colchis (科尔基斯), where King Ae?tes (埃厄特斯) took him in and treated him kindly, giving Phrixus his daughter Chalciope in marriage.
