Mao Pang and his Poetry Abstract Mao Pang, a member of the literary circle in the last years of Song Dynasty, was good at poetry and essays. His poetry displayed great art. However, little study has been conducted on Mao Pang’s literary works since the last 100 years, and the existing studies have been limited in his life and the regret of separation , without comprehensive and integrative researches. Beginning with his plight all his life, the present thesis examines closely East Room Ci of Mao in order to reveal the whole style and features and induce Mao’s artistic characters from his works. Born in last years of the age, Mao cherished the ideal of saving the nation. He sank into the lower officers for so many years because of different reasons as to be in dire straits and suffered a lot, but he always treated hardship with open mind and leisurely attitude. After public affairs, he regarded official career as seclusion, therefore, his songs displayed casual and elegant style. His contribution to the literature of Song Dynasty, as a matter of fact, lies in he was the first writer who created a lot of delicate and fascinating songs. Mao Pang’s poetry mainly involved official career, association, landscape, love, season, custom and so on, which relatively reflected on pursuits, vicissitudes of life and psychology all of his life. In the arts, his songs not only had the perfection of the craftsmanship, such as literary allusions and writings, but also had the perfection of the charm , such as bright tincture and quiet creative concept. Mao Pang’s association was very extensive. As a writer, checking his association and clarifying his social relations was very important, which expect to make out the effect of age and culture.
