Compared with other items of physical education, orienteering has become people’s favorite and been valued by education sectors because of variation and characteristics. Based on a quantity of literature and data, the paper deals with the feasibility of setting up the course of orienteering for undergraduates in colleges of Shanxi Province. The research has been carried out by many ways, such as questionnaires, specialists’ interviews, contrast and statistics, and so on. The concrete results are as following. First, it is not optimistic to set up the orienteering in all colleges of Shanxi Province. Among the ten colleges which have the course of orienteering, only one college, Jinzhong Institute, has set up the selective courses of orienteering and only three colleges, Shanxi Normal University, Jinzhong Institute and Shanxi Normal Institute, has set up the teams of orienteering. From these data, we can see that it is not optimistic to set up the orienteering in all colleges of Shanxi Province. Second, it plays very positive and particular roles in the education reform.
