There is an increasing market for independently living elderly in a sort of community which needs to be addressed. With a singl e corridor situate d nex t to the fa- ca d e th e nursing wing s o f th e bu il ding coul d b e column free with floors spanning from facade wall to facade wall. This not only achieves a great value in the future but a ver y pl easant ambient ex peri- ence as we l l. A lot of natura l light enters the cor- ridor which are usually centered in the wings and t h e r e for e d a r k a n d c l o s e d . Th e pa s sa g e t h ro u g h th e c o rri d o r with win d o w s o f d i f f e r e n t si z e s o n dif ferent heights gives a variety of views into the gardens. Moving through the building is therefore never dull both for the (disabled) inhabitants as for the personnel as well. The layout of the communes which are set up fo r g ro u p s of 8 e l d e rl y peo pl e of fer s t h e o p p o r- tunity to organize nursing more like a hote l. Four groups can be mixed in a way that people with the same way of living can easily find each other. The positioning of the living rooms/lounges support this freedom of living and making choices. With the cur- rent and more individual raised people of the future in mind this might be a very important issue. The situation on an island surrounded by water creates an urban quality most people want to live in. The water create d a smooth k ind of priva c y to the neighbours without losing spatial quality. The wings of the building are orientated in such a way so that they relate to the directions of the existing surrounding buildings.
